Aesthetic Health’s advice
Our skin as we age
The ageing process is one that most of us dread and one that is simply unavoidable. The harsh truth is that your skin will become inevitably weaker over time, causing a crepey or wrinkled effect. However, this process can happen a lot sooner for many of us, with fine lines and wrinkles starting to appear as early as our mid-20s. There are many reasons as to why this might happen, such as long-term sun damage, or the lifestyle choices we make.
Habits such as smoking and drinking can deprive your skin of essential oxygen and nutrients, breaking down the collagen and elastin fibres that are essential for supporting healthy, youthful skin processes. As a result, fine lines and wrinkles set in, creating the tired, aged appearance on our skin that is so familiar to many of us. If you’re concerned about fine lines and wrinkles, get in touch to schedule your consultation and take advantage of our expert advice and our range of highly advanced aesthetic skin rejuvenation treatments at Aesthetic Health.
Where am I likely to get wrinkles?
Fine lines and wrinkles are particularly prevalent in areas with high muscle activity, such as the thinner, more delicate skin around the eyes, forehead and mouth. Wrinkles also tend to appear on parts of the body which have had a lot of sun exposure, especially the face, neck and back of the hands.
What can I do to prevent them?
You can start getting wrinkles from as young as your twenties. Though these often start as frown lines on your mid-to-upper forehead, as you approach your thirties, you will start to see more of an impression and the start of crow’s feet. Many things can have an effect on the wrinkles that form on your face, including:
- Sleeping on your side or front can cause impressions in your skin that become wrinkles.
- Smoking limits oxygenation and can prevent collagen from working.
- Sun damage is a major cause of wrinkles and premature ageing.
- Adopting a daily skincare routine keeps skin hydrated and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
