The skin of the décolletage, is thinner and more vulnerable to sun damage than the skin on the face. Chest wrinkles or wrinkles overlying the neck develop because of exposure, especially to harmful ultra-violet light from the sun or from sun beds causing the skin to thin and the underlying collagen fibres to become distorted, broken and to lose their elasticity. The result is an excess of lines and wrinkles on the neck and chest area.
